Lorraine Fryett

The essence of my work is expressing my emotional response to flowers. In exploring their intricacies of form and nuances of color I wish to impart to the viewer these responses. I work to refine my realistic style, to infuse the painting with ethereal qualities, to attain a truly idiomatic style while respecting nature, to develop this personal interpretation into an artistic identity: i.e., sans signature, the painting 'signs' itself.

My childhood years were spent in the small town of Thorp, Washington; I later studied music at Ellensburg's Central Washington University. Drawing and painting have always been a part of my life and I consider myself a self-taught artist. With motivation from a Factory of Visual Arts class in Seattle in the early 70's I began exhibiting my work locally. Port Orchard's historic Sidney Gallery hosted my first one-man show in 1973. Many one-person and group exhibitions followed in a variety of Pacific Northwest galleries. My paintings are included in private collections across the country from Los Angeles to New York, in Canada, Hawaii, Japan and France.
